2026–2027 School Year Health Reminders from the Nurses' Office
To best prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, the Nurses' Office would like to share a few important reminders:
The state requires all sophomores (10th-grade students) to submit an updated physical examination.
Students must provide proof of receiving the second dose of the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine after age 16.
Please note that the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine is different from the Meningococcal B vaccine. While the Meningococcal B vaccine may be recommended, it is not required by the state.
Any student who will need to take daily medication during the school day must have an updated physician's order and a signed parental consent form on file with the Nurses' Office. Alternatively, your physician's office may fax the completed documentation directly to the Nurses' Office at 508-943-5956, turned in by your student or emailed to rgoetz@dcrsd.org or ecolon@dcrsd.org.
For students with a seizure disorder, we require an updated seizure action plan and current medication orders for the upcoming school year. Please let us know about your student's seizures, including what they typically look like, the date of the most recent seizure, and when and if a rescue medication has been used in the past. This information helps us provide the safest and most appropriate care during the school day.
For students with allergies, we require an updated allergy action plan and medication orders for any allergy medications that may need to be administered at school. Please also provide updated information about your student's allergies, including their known allergens, what their reactions typically look like, whether they have previously used an EpiPen or equivalent emergency medication, and, if so, when it was last used. This information helps us respond quickly and appropriately in the event of an allergic reaction.
Mandated health screenings will be conducted during the school year.
- 9th grade students will receive scoliosis screenings.
- 10th grade students will receive vision, hearing, height, weight, and scoliosis screenings.
Parents/guardians will be notified of any concerns identified during these screenings. An opt out email will be sent in the beginning of September if you do not want your student to be screened for any or all of the screenings.
Students participating in athletics must have an updated sports physical annually. Sports physicals are valid for 13 months from the date of the examination. Fall sports registration closes on August 10, 2026. Physicals may be emailed to ecolon@dcrsd.org and rgoetz@dcrsd.org, uploaded to FinalForms, or faxed directly to the school at 508-943-5956.
If your student has medical concerns you wish to notify the nurses at Shepherd Hill about, please reach out to our emails rgoetz@dcrsd.org or ecolon@dcrsd.org.
Please submit all required documentation as soon as possible to ensure your student is ready for the upcoming school year.
Have a Happy Healthy Summer!
